Mount Baw Baw Alpine Resort is enjoying another enormously successful winter season, experiencing the highest increase in visitation on its annual average across the last decade – more than any other Victorian alpine resort.

With visitation figures up 154 per cent on the 10-year annual average, Mount Baw Baw’s result is 25 per cent higher than the next best performing Victorian resort.

The huge increase in visitor numbers is a reflection on the quality of snow. While the industry had a slow start to the season, things have kicked into gear with big snow falls in late July and August. Mount Baw Baw now has a natural snow depth of 75cm – a volume that has not been seen at this time of the year since 2008. With another significant dump of snow still expected this month, Resort Manager Alex Flint says that it is looking likely that the mountain will continue to operate lifts into the second week of September.

Flint said that to celebrate, Mount Baw Baw has slashed prices on mid-week lift tickets for the remainder of the season, ski or board for just $25 per person Monday-Friday, making it now more affordable than ever for visitors to escape for an alpine getaway at Mount Baw Baw.

“With snow conditions this good, we want to make sure no one misses out on hitting the slopes or getting some snow play in.  We are now offering lift tickets on Monday to Friday for just $25 as well as off-peak rates at selected accommodation,” said Flint.

“Whether you’re a first-time snow-goer or an experienced skier, take advantage of the amazing snow and come to Mount Baw Baw with your friends and family for an alpine adventure.  We’re an easy two-and-a-half hours’ drive from Melbourne, so come for the day or stay the night,” he continued.

Mount Baw Baw is the closest downhill ski resort to Melbourne with over 35 hectares of downhill terrain for mostly beginner and intermediate levels.  Claiming the mantle as Australia’s best place to learn to ski and snowboard, Mount Baw Baw offers a range of on-mountain accommodation for all budgets from flashpacker style dormitory accommodation, premium cabins, traditional lodges, and self-contained apartments.
