The Mt Baw Baw Alpine Resort Classic, a road cycling event that is the third event on the Victorian Road Series calendar and includes the 2018 Victorian Hill Climb Championships. The 2018 race marks 18 years of this event.
This year the race will see some grades begin from the historic Noojee Heritage Centre instead of the traditional starting town of Warragul.
The change will see the race cut down from 100 to just under 50 kilometres for some grades in the hope it will put the focus back on the iconic climb up Mt Baw Baw.
“Over the past couple of years we have noticed a decline in entry numbers across various categories and this change is hoped to encourage more people to participate in the race,” said Race Director Karin Jones.
“The feedback we’ve had from Cycling Victoria, is that many riders were wanting the challenge of climbing Mt Baw Baw but that the preceding 40 kilometres out of Warragul were extremely tough prior to the ultimate goal which is reaching the summit of Mt Baw Baw.
The race is not possible without the support of volunteers. So if you think climbing up Baw Baw’s is nuts, enable those that don’t by volunteering at the event.
Come along and cheer on some of the states and countries best cyclists on April 8th.
Note: As the race is nearing completion there may be times the event organisers will need to stop downward traffic depending on the size of the groups travelling to the mountain. This will cause minimal disruption and won't affect travel up the mountain.
