Frequently asked questions about chains
Where do I pick up chains I hired from the Resort?
They can be collected from the Resort Entry Gate and Chain fitting bay. You can see this on Google maps here.
Do I really need snow chains?
Yes! Significant fines apply for those who do not carry chains, and we can refuse you entry.
A fee of up to $350 may be charged for un-returned chains so please don’t forget to return them.
I have a 4WD - do I need to carry snow chains?
Yes – accidents can occur in 4WD event when you have chains equipped due to the steepness of some sections of the roads at ski resorts. Carrying chains is a legal requirement for all vehicles.
Where can I buy snow chains?
If you’re travelling to the snow regularly; snow chains can also be purchased at businesses like Autobarn and SuperCheap Auto in nearby towns such as Warragul and Moe.
The rental businesses above may sell old stock at reduced prices.
Can I put chains on myself?
Yes, we have dedicated chain fitting areas at Resort Entry and along the road. Watch the video below to learn how to fit chains.
Can I bring any car to the snow?
No. Not all vehicles are suitable for the snow. We recommended not using the following vehicles when visiting the snow:
- Vehicles that are lowered with low gap between the tyre and vehicle body that cannot fit chains
- Small low engine capacity cars like Japanese kei trucks due to the steep entry road
- Vehicles that have tyres larger than a standard 4WD all-terrain tyre should ensure they have chains in advance
- Vehicles that are low on fuel or battery power as there are no refueling points at the Resort
- Vehicles with trailers cannot travel in the snow
Can I brink a motorbike to the snow?
No, sorry. Motorbikes are not permitted during declared snow season – as they cannot fit wheel chains which are a legal requirement. You can, however, visit in summer which is popular for bikes.
